Graduates at work
Lara Maré, ex-Maties student, says...
Lara Maré is a management accountant that gained membership to CIMA in February this year. “I studied management accounting at Stellenbosch and finished in 2003,” she says. “CIMA seemed like a natural step from there, given what I studied. I also wanted to do it from a global exposure perspective and it aligns very well with what employers are looking for in the current market.”

Coming up in September
September will see Glenrand M•I•B visiting UWC to do its last career presentation for the year. Those keen on a career in insurance would benefit from checking it out. Also coming up in September is the Cape Argus Workplace Expo, where loads of recruiters will be looking for graduates to join their ranks. You can find out more about the Expo here.
Ask the Experts
GradX.net’s experts get loads of questions about specific careers. Check out this section to see what other GradXers are asking, and it might help you plan your career. This month’s featured question is:
Q: How can I become a pharmaceutical sales rep?
A: Most pharmaceutical businesses look for reps with a scientific background. A BSc, nursing or pharmaceutical degree is usually required, although some companies will consider BCom degrees that include some science subjects. If you would like to rep veterinary medical supplies, a veterinary or veterinary nursing degree would be helpful. Get to the section on the pharmaceutical industry here for more information.
